Gratitude as Worship

May 12, 2026 / 5 min read

True gratitude is expressed through the heart, tongue, and limbs in obedience.

Gratitude begins in the heart with recognition that every blessing comes from Allah. It then moves to the tongue in praise and thanks. Finally, it manifests in the limbs through obedience and proper use of what has been given.

A grateful servant sees both ease and hardship as opportunities. Ease is met with thanks, and hardship is met with patience—both are forms of worship.

Increasing blessings

Allah has promised that gratitude leads to increase. This is not merely material increase but increase in contentment, guidance, and closeness to Him.

The opposite of gratitude is not complaint but forgetfulness—forgetting the source of all good and attributing success to oneself.
